In Nairobi, Kenya, Dentalcore Solution pioneered an environmentally sustainable dental clinic model that addresses both healthcare needs and environmental concerns. The project incorporated solar energy systems, water recycling technology, and biodegradable consumables while maintaining international treatment standards.
The clinic’s design features innovative environmental solutions: solar panels generate 110% of energy needs, allowing excess power to be redirected to community lighting. Water purification systems recycle 85% of dental unit water for non-sterile uses. Dentalcore sourced locally manufactured furniture and fixtures where possible, reducing carbon footprint while supporting local economies.

Equipment selection prioritized energy efficiency and durability. Dentalcore engineers modified standard dental units to operate at lower water pressure without compromising function, reducing water consumption by 60% compared to conventional clinics. They implemented digital imaging instead of traditional radiography, eliminating chemical waste from processor systems3.
The training program included unique environmental components: waste management protocols, recycling procedures, and community education techniques. Staff learned to effectively communicate the clinic’s environmental mission to patients, creating additional patient engagement and loyalty.
Within eight months of operation, the clinic achieved carbon-neutral status while serving over 900 patients monthly. The model proved so successful that the Kenyan Ministry of Health has engaged Dentalcore to develop national sustainable dentistry guidelines based on this pilot project.
Dr. Wanjiku Mbeki, the clinic founder, notes: “Dentalcore showed us that environmental responsibility and clinical excellence aren’t mutually exclusive. Patients particularly appreciate our approach—many choose us specifically because of our environmental values”.
This project demonstrates how dental infrastructure development can align with environmental sustainability goals when approached with innovation and commitment.
